About Ray Patterson, PhD, MBA, CGA

Dr. Patterson is an Associate Professor in the Accounting, Operations and Information Systems faculty at the University of Alberta.  Ray is the Alberta School of Business Fellow in Management Information Systems, and formerly the Canada Research Chair in Management Information Systems.  He is also a Certified General Accountant.  His primary research interests include information systems and decision technologies.  Ray earned a BSBA, majoring in both accounting and MIS, and an MBA from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, and a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio in Accounting & MIS with a concentration in MIS.  As an undergraduate, he graduated Magna Cum Laude and served as an officer in Beta Alpha Psi.  Dr. Patterson has taught at The University of Alberta, The University of Texas at Dallas, The Ohio State University, and at Bowling Green State University at the undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and executive education levels.  Ray has published extensively in the major academic management journals, and received the 2011 IBM Faculty Award for his work on understanding patent value.


Ray has over 20 years of experience working with organizations in several industries, including accounting, healthcare, transportation, telecommunications, resource management, and government.  Ray has worked full-time as a staff-auditor for Ernst and Young in Toledo, Ohio, and as an accounting and IS supervisor in the construction industry.  His experience includes a wide range of management areas.  He regularly delivers executive seminars and EMBA classes to audiences and organizations in North America.
